About Me

Hi, I’m Krystian Rutledge

I'm a designer who cares deeply about education, families, and the way technology shows up in people's everyday lives.

Before I ever thought about product strategy or UX frameworks, my work started in classrooms, community spaces, and conversations with parents and teachers. I've always been drawn to helping people understand things that feel complicated — whether that's learning a new skill, navigating a system, or supporting a child's growth.

Design, for me, isn't just about how something looks. It's about how it feels to use. Does it reduce stress? Does it save time? Does it make someone feel more confident instead of overwhelmed? Those questions guide everything I build.

My Story

My path into design grew out of education. I founded a children's enrichment program where I taught STEM through LEGO robotics, and that experience shaped how I see learning — as something that should be engaging, accessible, and human. Later, while working in schools as a teaching assistant, I saw firsthand how stretched teachers are and how much parents want to help but don't always know how.

Those moments stayed with me.

They led me to design projects like EduLink, a parent–teacher communication platform built to reduce friction and workload, and Kidogo, an early learning experience centered on trust and clarity for families.

They also shaped my work in classrooms at Chandler School, where I helped launch robotics programs and participated in an AI initiative exploring how technology could better support educators behind the scenes.

Along the way, I started KC Designs, where I've helped founders and small teams bring ideas to life — always with a focus on clarity, usability, and real people on the other side of the screen.

What I Believe

I believe good design:

Makes complex things feel simple

Respects people's time and attention

Centers empathy over ego

Works quietly in the background to support real life

Education especially demands this kind of care. When tools are poorly designed, they add stress. When they're thoughtful, they create space — for learning, connection, and growth.

How I work

I design by listening first. I talk to users, sit with constraints, and prototype early. I'm comfortable working across design and product because I care less about titles and more about outcomes. Whether I'm sketching flows, giving design feedback, or collaborating with educators and engineers, my goal is always the same: make things clearer and more human.

Today

Today, I continue to design education-focused products, mentor emerging designers, and explore how technology can better support families and schools. I'm also a new father, which has deepened my connection to this work — I'm now asking the same questions so many parents ask: How do I best support my child's learning? What tools actually help?

Let's Build What's Next

Whether you're designing for students, families, or entire learning communities — I'd love to help bring it to life.
